Download Your Ahrefs Performance Data

If you use Ahrefs, you may be interested in using the Ahrefs API to collect data about your own performance data. Check out the link to their documentation and request builder, where you can see how to query your own account for your own keywords, rankings, competitors etc… You will need to obtain an API key for your account to use the API.

Using the API is pretty straightforward if you’re building custom code, as they even offer example code samples you can use (copy and paste) into your own codebase to get up and running. However, if you’d rather not maintain or invest in your own code if you just want to export CSV files of your own data, then this page can help you out.

Scraping the Ahrefs API

The links on this page are to endpoints that we support around the Ahrefs API (you can also add your own endpoints or just reach out to support here for help), and you simply provide your API key and relevant query parameters and our service will query the Ahrefs API on your behalf and parse out the response data into downloadable CSV files you can quickly use and analyze in Excel without maintaining any code of your own.

Scraping Ahrefs Public Data

You may also be interested in scraping public data from the Ahrefs website, which we can legally do using HAR files. These allow us to record our web traffic while using Ahrefs and then perform the scrape on the recording instead of the actual website as to not violate the Ahrefs Terms of Service.

1. Browse Ahrefs Data

Head to Ahrefs and run a keyword search or browse whatever data it is that you want to scrape. As long as it loads dynamically on the page (not baked into the HTML), you should be able to scrape it. Once you’re browsing the data you want, right click on the page and click “Inspect” to open developer tools, which will begin recording your web traffic.

Now refresh the page to force Ahrefs to reload its data to your browser now that you’re recording. Then browse and scroll through the data, clicking next as needed, to keep loading more and more data into your browser’s recording.

2. Export & Download

When you’re done browsing, go to the “Network” tab in your browser’s developer tools and click the down arrow labeled “Export HAR…” to download a HAR file containing the raw data from Ahrefs. Upload that to the HAR File Web Scraper and look for the groups containing the SEO data you’re interested in. Click “Parse Group” and you’ll then be able to download this data into CSV files you can analyze locally in Excel or your favorite spreadsheet program.
